We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to rock hounding and fellowship.

Come Join Us:

Our meetings are held on the second (2nd) and fourth (4th) Friday of each month except for August (Potluck Picnic 2nd meeting) and December (Holiday Dinner 1st meeting, 2nd meeting cancelled.)

We would enjoy your company and love to tell you about what our club does. On the first Friday we have our business meeting to discuss the general operations and future projects, this is also when the Junior's Club meets in another part of the grange. The business meeting is a good time to discover the actual workings of the organization and if you are a member or are thinking about joining it is a good time to volunteer a little of your time to making the Puyallup Valley Gem and Mineral Club a little stronger. The business meeting is not all discussion it is also a time of sharing and fellowship with Show and Tell following the business portion of the meeting and great fellowship with coffee and snacks after that.

The second meeting of the month is our program night where you can perhaps hear a lecture, watch a demonstration, learn a technique and possibly make something with your own hands. We also have some special events that happen on program nights through the year, one of the favorites is the semi-annual potluck and auction.

One other good reason for joining us at a meeting is to learn more about the often non-scheduled field trips that occur throughout most of the year. Our membership costs are very reasonable, talk to the treasure to find out more.

Our meetings are held at:  Fruitland Grange      (MapQuest Map)         Time:   7:30 pm
                                             112th & 86th
                                             Puyallup, WA

Hands On Classes

Puyallup Valley Gem and Mineral Club provides a variety of hands on classes for all ages; which are offered October, November and January through April and a special class in June. Some of the possible classes include cabochon cutting, wire wrapping, gem tree making, faceting, scrimshaw, beaded cabochons, advanced gem tree design, intarshia, silver smithing, precious metal clay, amber polishing, opal cutting, opal triplet making and other specialties as instructors become available.

Show and Tell

Show and Tell occurs at the end of every club meeting except special event nights. The purpose of Show and Tell is for members to show off what they have created, found in a rock hounding expedition or just something of interest. Most meetings have a Show and Tell theme, but members are allowed to display and discuss what they wish.

There always is a wonderful array of beautiful items on display.

Field Trips

Field trips are one of the most exciting activities of any rock club and those sponsored by the Puyallup Valley Gem and Mineral Club are no exception. Washington state has many varieties of minerals and a large variety of gem stones available for the finding. Just a few of the materials found include jasper, quartz crystal plates, carnelian agate and petrified wood.

Semi Annual Potluck & Auction

Twice a year in April and November we have a potluck and auction fund raiser to make money for the scholarship fund and general operating expenses. One can expect to eat a feast and possibly own several exciting treasures. Some past auction items have included finished opal pendants, raw opal, faceted gem stones, exotic mineral specimens, rough rock in varying poundage and occasionally lapidary equipment. This is just a few of the offerings from an average auction night.

Space Needle

When the Puget Sound Club disbanded, Puyallup Valley Gem and Mineral Club was selected for the guardianship of this most unique piece of rock work.  It is stored, transported and set up by members that cherish its’ significance to the rock club membership

Puyallup Fair

The Puyallup Valley Gem and Mineral Club has an annual display in the Hobby Hall at the Western Washington Fair in Puyallup Washington, we provide information on rock hounding, our club, other area clubs and a free polished stone to all children under 12 years of age.

There is the Stone Space Needle and at least two display cases of lapidary specimens on display. This is a true crowd pleaser.

Club Show

The Puyallup Valley Gem & Mineral Club hosts an annual gem and mineral show the first weekend of June each year.

Highlights of the show are our vendors indoors and out selling everything from beads, finished jewelry items, mineral specimens and various rock slabs and items made from rocks. We also have demonstrators showing guests some of the lapidary activities that the club teaches and a kids area where they make mini gem trees, dig for fossils, and stones and enjoy a spin on the wheel of rock fortune. Other activities include a silent auction, raffle, club sales table and a snack bar with lunch specials daily. New this year will be an area set up to inform guests of the various places in Washington State to rock hound as well as a welcome table with membership information.
There is no admission fee, so come and enjoy all that the Puyallup Gem Show has to offer.

Junior's Club

We have a small group of Junior members that would love for you to join them. They meet once a month on the 2nd Friday at 7:30 pm at the Fruitland Grange hall. Their meeting is in an adjacent room to the regular Business club meeting at that same location and time. They learn about various rocks and minerals and enjoy participating in crafts using rocks and gems. The Junior members also enjoy their own hands on equipment during the Hands on sessions throughout the year and at the semi annual auction a special table is set up for the kids silent auction.

Group Educational Opportunities

The Puyallup Valley Gem & Mineral Club has a wide variety of educational topics that their members can present to your group.  Groups that we have participated with in the past are Elementary Geology/Science classes, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.  Topics include talks on Fossils, Minerals and Rocks.  Most talks are 1 hour in length and include a “Show and Tell”.  We also offer a hands-on learning experience in Gem Tree creation for a minimal fee per participant.  This class can be taught in a four hour session on a Saturday or Sunday.  Participants will take home a finished tree.
